Discover Confidence, Fitness and Community at the Hunter Valley Martial Arts Open Days – 12 & 13 September 2026

If you’ve been thinking about trying martial arts for yourself or your child, September is the perfect time to step onto the mats and experience it firsthand. Hunter Valley Martial Arts is opening its doors for a special Open Day Weekend on Saturday 12 September and Sunday 13 September 2026, giving local families the chance to explore one of Newcastle and Lake Macquarie’s leading traditional karate schools in a fun, welcoming and supportive environment.

HUNTER VALLEY MARTIAL ARTS – OPEN DAY

Saturday 12 September & Sunday 13 September 2026

This is a free community event, and whether you’re a complete beginner or simply curious about martial arts, everyone is encouraged to come along and give it a try.

At Hunter Valley Martial Arts, martial arts is about much more than learning physical techniques. The school’s philosophy is centred on helping people develop confidence, respect, resilience, focus and self-discipline — qualities that benefit children, teenagers and adults in every area of life.

For children, martial arts can provide structure, positive role models and a healthy outlet for energy. Parents often tell us they notice improvements in listening skills, concentration at school, emotional regulation and self-confidence after their children begin training.

For adults, training offers an opportunity to improve fitness, flexibility, mental wellbeing and self-defence skills while becoming part of a supportive community that encourages personal growth at every stage of the journey.

What You Can Expect at the Open Day

The September Open Day has been designed to give families a genuine taste of the Hunter Valley Martial Arts experience.

Visitors will be able to enjoy free trial classes for kids, teens and adults, meet the friendly instructors and coaching team, watch exciting martial arts demonstrations, learn about the confidence, anti-bullying, fitness and self-defence programs, ask questions and find the right class for their family, and enjoy a fun, welcoming atmosphere for all ages and experience levels.

One of the best parts of the Open Day is that you can participate at your own pace. There is no pressure to have prior experience, and beginners are especially welcome.

A Proud Traditional Karate Dojo

Hunter Valley Martial Arts has built a strong reputation across the Newcastle and Hunter region through its commitment to traditional karate values. Unlike many modern martial arts centres that focus primarily on sport or fitness trends, Hunter Valley Martial Arts maintains the traditions of a genuine dojo — a place of learning, respect and character development.

Traditional karate places importance on etiquette, humility, perseverance and continuous self-improvement. Students learn to bow as a sign of respect, support their training partners and understand that martial arts is a lifelong journey rather than simply a short-term activity.

This traditional approach helps create a positive training environment where students of all ages feel safe, encouraged and challenged to become the best version of themselves.

Hunter Valley Martial Arts has been serving families across the Hunter for many years and has grown from a single dojo into a network of locations including Warners Bay, Maryland, Redhead, Green Hills, Waratah and Morisset. Throughout that growth, the business has remained focused on its original mission: helping ordinary people build extraordinary life skills through traditional martial arts training.

Generations of local families have trained with Hunter Valley Martial Arts, and many students who began as children have continued into adulthood, with some even returning later with their own children. That sense of continuity and community is one of the reasons the school has become such a respected part of the local sporting and personal development landscape.

The instructors are passionate about creating an environment where every student — regardless of age, fitness level or ability — feels welcomed and supported from their very first class.

Why Families Love Training Together

One of the unique aspects of Hunter Valley Martial Arts is its strong family culture. Parents are not expected to simply drop children off at the door — many choose to train alongside them, creating shared goals, healthy habits and valuable time together.

Training as a family can help strengthen communication, encourage mutual support and provide a regular activity that benefits both physical and mental health. The Open Day is specifically designed to be family friendly, so parents, children, siblings and friends are all encouraged to attend together.
