Anti-Bullying and Resilience Workshops for Families and Youths

Building Stronger Kids, Stronger Families and Stronger Futures: Free Resilience and Anti-Bullying Workshops This August

At Hunter Valley Martial Arts, we believe that resilience is one of the most important life skills a young person can develop.

In today’s world, young people face challenges that previous generations never had to navigate. From bullying and social pressures to academic stress, relationship difficulties, school refusal and anxiety about the future, many children, teens and families are looking for practical tools to help them thrive.

That’s why we’re excited to announce our upcoming Resilience and Anti-Bullying Workshops, taking place on Friday 14 August at Hunter Valley Martial Arts.

These workshops are completely free for anyone to attend, including our members and their families and will provide practical strategies that can be used immediately at home, at school and in everyday life. Whether you’re a parent wanting to support your child through difficult times, a student struggling in school, or a young adult looking to build confidence and resilience, these sessions are designed to help.

Workshop One: Families, Anti-Bullying and School Refusal

5:00pm – 5:45pm

The first workshop is designed specifically for parents, carers, children under 12 and families.

Bullying remains one of the biggest concerns facing families today. While schools continue to work hard to create safe environments, many parents feel unsure about how best to support their child when bullying occurs.

This workshop will explore:

  • Understanding different forms of bullying
  • How to respond effectively when your child is being bullied
  • Building resilience and confidence in children
  • Supporting children through friendship challenges
  • Practical strategies for reducing the impact of bullying
  • Family resilience and emotional wellbeing
  • Understanding and addressing school refusal
  • Helping children develop healthy coping mechanisms

School refusal has become increasingly common across Australia, with many families struggling to manage the emotional, social and educational impacts. During this session, families will gain practical tools to help identify the causes of school refusal and learn strategies to support young people back into positive routines and learning environments.

The workshop will also focus on family resilience—helping families develop stronger communication, healthier relationships and greater confidence when facing life’s challenges together.

Workshop Two: Resilience for Life (Ages 12+)

6:00pm – 6:45pm

The second workshop is aimed at young adults and teenagers preparing for the challenges of adolescence and early adulthood who are facing increasing expectations from school, social media, friendships, family commitments and future career decisions. This interactive workshop will focus on developing resilience and practical life skills that can help young people navigate these challenges with confidence.

Topics include:

  • Managing exam pressure and academic stress
  • Developing confidence and self-belief
  • Entering the workforce and preparing for job interviews
  • Building resilience during setbacks and disappointments
  • Managing friendship and relationship challenges
  • Dealing with peer pressure
  • Developing healthy emotional regulation skills
  • Goal setting and personal growth

Participants will learn practical techniques that can help them stay calm under pressure, communicate more effectively and approach challenges with a positive mindset. These are skills that don’t just help during school years—they become valuable tools for life.

Why Resilience Matters

Confidence isn’t something you’re born with—it’s something you build. Resilience works much the same way.

Resilient young people are better equipped to:

  • Handle setbacks
  • Recover from difficult experiences
  • Develop positive relationships
  • Manage stress and anxiety
  • Stand up to bullying
  • Take healthy risks
  • Pursue their goals with confidence

Resilience can be taught, practised and strengthened over time. Through martial arts training, our students develop resilience every week as they learn new skills, overcome challenges and build confidence in a supportive environment. These workshops provide an opportunity to take those lessons even further by giving families and young people practical tools they can use in everyday life.

Register Early

We know from previous workshops that places can fill quickly, particularly when families hear positive feedback from those who have attended before.

If you’ve ever wished your child had more confidence, better coping skills or practical strategies for handling difficult situations, these workshops are an excellent opportunity.

Likewise, if you’re a parent looking for guidance around bullying, school refusal or family resilience, you’ll leave with practical ideas and actionable strategies.

Join us on Friday 14 August at your local Hunter Valley Martial Arts centre for an evening dedicated to building stronger kids, stronger families and stronger futures.

We look forward to seeing you there.
