The Hunter Valley Martial Arts Centre Warners Bay and Redhead are official Will-Machado training centre. Head Coach Sensei Kelie Fisher is a black belt and runs the program along with Principal Kyoshi Brian Hayes, a brown belt in BJJ. Our technical advisor is Anthony Lange, and he visits several times per year to teach seminars, and assist with gradings.
The club has already competed successfully in tournaments since 2011, with student numbers growing quickly. Our students have had great results both nationally, and internationally, in such tournaments as The Gathering. Our kids program, Matrats, which is for 6 to 14 years, have also had great results competing in local tournaments in NSW and also in QLD as well.
The Warners Bay dojo also holds a Women and Girls only BJJ Program, conducted by Head Coach Sensei Kelie Fisher, and has a strong association with the Australian Girls in Gi movement.
For children interested in the gentle but effective art of BJJ we also conduct children’s BJJ programs. They compliment the traditional karate programs offered, by teaching children resilience, effective self defence, and non violent ways to control and subdue aggressive attacks without striking back. For those with children under the age of 6 we have our Mini Matrats Program, contact our Warners Bay centre if you’re interested in this program.

Head Coach
Sensei Kelie started karate in 2011 and attained her black belt in 2014.
Sensei Kelie is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (2023) and a black belt in Hunter Fight Fit (2014).
2017 Sydney champion in Australian Girls in Gi as a purple belt.
2nd place in National Machado Championships.
Bronze medalist in 2018 IFBJJ World Masters, top 50 IFBJJ rankings.
Sensei Kelie is our Head Coach for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Hunter Valley Martial Arts Centre, which includes the Mat Rats kids BJJ program, and the Womens Only BJJ program. She also runs the Womens Empowerment program a few times a year.
Brian Hayes
Principal
Kyoshi Brian Hayes is the Principal of Hunter Valley Martial Arts Centre and is a brown belt in Will Machado Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He started BJJ at the age of 50 and was awarded his blue belt by Rodrigo Gracie, his purple belt by Sean Kirkwood (Will-Machado NSW Head Coach), and his brown belt by Anthony Lange.
Kyoshi Hayes first opened the BJJ program at HVMAC Warners Bay over 15 years ago.
He has placed first in the Masters Division twice at the National Will-Machado Championships.
Davie McEwan
Assistant Instructor
Sempai Davie teaches Mat Rats and adults BJJ at Redhead. He achieved his blue belt in March of 2023 under Sensei Kelie Fisher. He is also a 1st kyu in karate at HVMAC.
